We care

we take responsibility for the choices we make.

At Cinas, we work with a clear sense of responsibility—in our choice of materials, our production, our collaboration with suppliers, and the way we transport our goods.

Taking responsibility is a core value for us—in every aspect of our business.

For us, it’s about creating products that last for many years—without compromising on people or the environment.

As the company’s founder, Carl J. Nielsen, said back in 1903, when he established Cinas as the joint stock company it remains today:

“Quality pays off.”

That fundamental principle still guides everything we do.

CSR & responsibility

We maintain a constant focus on ensuring good production conditions and working environments—not just within our own company, but also among our partners.

We know that the companies we work with, even though they are often geographically distant, are built on many of the same values as ours.

They share our respect for both craftsmanship and people.

We know this because many of the factories we work with have been our partners for generations, and we have seen how they are now run by the next generation—just as Cinas itself has been passed down within our own family.

These close relationships mean that we know not only the production processes, but also the people behind them.

This builds trust and ensures a shared commitment to creating products that can withstand the demands of everyday life.

However, strong relationships do not change the fact that we continue to set clear requirements for our collaborations—both through regular visits and with our Supplier Code of Conduct.

CERTIFICATIONS & TESTING

We prioritize materials from responsibly managed forests and collaborate with independent testing institutes to ensure the quality of the products we create.

Where possible and relevant, we use FSC-certified wood.

In all cases, we ensure that our raw materials come from forests managed with respect for nature, people, and the future.

Through testing, documentation, and traceability (Chain of Custody), we make it possible for our customers to choose with confidence—and to bring our products out into the world.

MATERIALS WITH CARE

All the teak and mahogany we use comes from responsibly managed plantations. This means that new trees are planted where old ones are felled, and resources are managed with care for the future.

Our plantation teak is documented through Indonesian Legal Wood (SVLK), which ensures legal origin, traceability, and responsible forestry.

We also work with bamboo—one of nature’s most renewable resources. When bamboo is harvested, the plant quickly sprouts new stems, making it a particularly gentle choice for both the environment and resources. While wood requires replanting, bamboo regrows from the same root system.

In addition, we think in circles. Whenever possible, we use surplus wood and recycled materials such as paper and plastic fibers in our collections.

In this way, we reduce waste and give resources new life as beautiful, functional products.

What all the materials we use have in common is that they are chosen with a focus on durability, aesthetics, and respect for the earth’s resources.

Longevity & Future

For us, one of the most important factors is how long a piece of furniture lasts. When a product can be used for 10, 15, 20 years or more—instead of just a few years—it brings more joy, better value, and a much smaller impact on the environment.

Ensuring a long lifespan for furniture isn’t just about the strength of the material; it’s also about how it’s crafted and designed. A piece of furniture must withstand everyday use, changing weather, and all of life’s little marks—without losing its character or function.

At Cinas, we design with classic lines and timeless aesthetics, so our furniture fits not just one season or trend. It should be beautiful to look at and comfortable to use—year after year.

We prioritize materials that age gracefully, where patina is not a flaw but part of the charm. A teak table turning silvery-grey or a leather cushion gaining character are examples of how the passage of time adds to their appeal.

Creating furniture with a long lifespan is also a way to show respect for resources. The longer a piece is used, the less need there is to extract new materials and produce new products. For us, durability is not just a matter of quality—it’s a central part of our responsibility as manufacturers.

When you choose a piece of furniture from Cinas, you get something designed to accompany you for many years—and perhaps even be passed on to the next generation.
